About Ash & Bumble

Hello! My name is Ashley Layne & I am the owner & sole operator of Ash & Bumble — a small-batch, hand-dyed yarn company in Indianapolis, IN.

I started Ash & Bumble in March 2020 as an artistic outlet during a transitional time in my life & I am so grateful that my little business has grown to where it’s at today thanks to the amazing fiber arts community.

I taught myself everything I know about the fiber arts (knitting, crochet, designing, dyeing, spinning) starting a decade ago when I was 25. I had the ambitious goal in January 2016 of being able to knit sweaters by the end of the year & not only did I accomplish that goal I became utterly obsessed with knitting. During the summer of 2019 a friend and I wanted to learn how to dye our own yarn. We spent hours in my kitchen playing around with dyes, yarns, & various techniques that we have learned through online research & many videos. That friend now helps me vend at festivals (love you Ashley!)

I operate my dye studio out of my home’s basement located north of downtown Indianapolis. Since I live with my partner, two kids, & a dog operating a yarn dyeing business out of my home can be pretty chaotic, but my next goal is to open a dye studio/shop/community space in downtown Indianapolis!
